Center Body Pillar

Center Body Pillar

The center body pillar is a columnar part located between the front and rear doors that connects the floor to the roof.
Since it is an important part to protect passengers when other vehicles collide with each other from the side of the vehicle, it uses a particularly hard (high-strength) material for other body parts.
Our mainstay products use technologies such as ultra-high-tensile steel, hot stamps, and structural adhesives.

Strengths of Center Body Pillar

Design to protect people in the event of a collision

Design to protect people in the event of a collision

In the event of an accident, the engine compartment or luggage compartment will absorb the impact if it collides from the front or rear of the vehicle. However, when it collides from the side, it is necessary to absorb the impact and protect the occupants in a small amount of space.
Accordingly, we will repeat collision analysis and actual machine tests in order to absorb the maximum impact in space saving, and design in millimeter units while combining several kinds of materials and devising shapes.

Technology for creating complex shapes

The center body pillar may not be just sturdy. In order to improve driving performance and fuel efficiency, it is necessary to make it as light as possible.
However, this part has a complicated shape to satisfy the vehicle design and shock absorbing performance. If only hard (high strength) materials are used, they cannot be shaped well.
For this reason, we produce hot stamps (a technology that improves hardening strength by pressing steel plates heated to about 900°C and softened, and then cooling them).
